Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire
Our Featured Pet...
Hi my name is Miles. I am a 7 year old neutered male. I was brought to the shelter because I was not getting along with the other animals in the home. I would much rather be the center of your attention and the only pet! My past home told the shelter that I love to snuggle and am very smart and talented. I love to play with wand toys, especially a toy called a cat charmer and will do all sorts of acrobatics for you. I have a lot of love to give and will be your best friend forever if you give me a chance.
So I have been here for a year now. I really can't understand why! Staff have been good about giving me lots of attention but it is just not the same as a loving home. I am now one of the featured cats in the lobby and I keep hoping that as potential adopters walk past they may see the love in my eyes and choose me! When staff open my cage door I hop right on out and head to a visiting room. I turn around to make sure you are following and then let the cuddle session begin! If you know anyone who is looking for a really nice companion or if you are just looking for a playmate on your lunch break come on in and I will keep you entertained.
My Feline-ality is: Sidekick (orange)
News
Thank you to everyone who came in during adopt-a-shelter-cat month! You helped us find homes for 84 cats and kittens!
Annual Kitten Shower Saturday, July 12th
Join us this month for a great family event! Each year, beginning in April, we start to see a significant increase in the number of kittens being brought to (or born in) the shelter. While we work aggressively to prevent unwanted litters, we will care for and cherish the animals that are already here. Our annual kitten shower is a chance to come to a baby shower for our newest felines. Our generous guests typically bring donations from our wishlist (such as canned & dry kitten food with no red dyes; Milk Replacement - KMR for kittens; and cat litter (clay, nonscoopable). A little closer to the date - we will "register" at PetSmart for the things that we need to handle this influx of youngsters. Please plan to come by, visit with our adoptable cats and kittens, and drop off any "baby presents" you may wish to donate.
Cat Show
Visit the League on Saturday, July 26 at the NH Feline Fanciers CFA Cat Show at the Icenter on Lowell Rd in Salem, NH. To learn more about the show, go to www.nhff.org. Have you adopted a cat from the League? Enter it into the NHFF's household pet competition! Household pets may compete beginning at 4 months of age, may not be declawed and must be neutered/spayed once they are 8 months old.
Pet Step
Save the date! On Saturday, September 20th, the Animal Rescue League of NH will be holding its 5th Annual Pet Step at Camp Allen in Bedford, NH. Interested in vendor opportunities? Who We Are
The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire is a community resource dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets, caring for companion animals afflicted by neglect, abandonment and cruelty and enhancing the relationship between people and pets through adoption, education, compassion and the promotion of animal welfare.
Adopting a friend
The Animal Rescue League of NH participates in the ASPCA Meet Your Match Canine-AlityTM and Feline-alityTM Adoption Programs. These are unique programs, based on extensive behavioral research done by the ASPCA and IAMS, that categorize our available dogs and cats based on their personality.
When a potential adopter comes in to visit with our adoptable dogs and cats, we ask them to fill out a short survey - the dog adopter survey or the cat adopter survey. This survey is then added up and the adopter is placed in one of three color categories. We have found that this program helps people pick out the right match for them as opposed to choosing a certain pet because "he's cute" or "she's a beautiful color".
Our job as adoption counselors is to help potential adopters find their "perfect match". We understand that it may seem overwhelming when we ask so many questions, but we just want to be sure your family is making the right decision. We think you will also find the Meet Your Match program a helpful tool when choosing your companion.
